What Should I be noted When I use VESC?

What is VESC?

This speed controller has the ability to do many things a normal RC speed controller can not. One of those is limiting the amount of amps that come from your battery to your motors. An easy way to burn up a motor is by sending it more amps than it can handle for too long (often while riding up a hill). This means you should never burn up a motor with a vesc (unless you set this limit too high). There’s also many other protections that can be set through limits, such as the max temperature you want the vesc to get to (so you can’t burn up the speed controller), min and max input voltage (so you can’t pull the voltage of your battery under a safe limit, which would brick your battery), and max regenerative break amps (protects battery from having too many amps sent back in to it). So you can protect your entire electronic system from making some of the most common user mistakes by setting these limits correctly.

Variations of VESCs

They’re are many different VESC’s on the market, and none of which are equal.

Here we say VESC4.12 and VESC6.0

What do I need to be noted when I receive the VESC?

For V6 VESC:
Also here are some attention points please noted before you use the VESC:

All products had been double checked and tested one by one before shipment, only if the products are working normally would be shipped out.

1. When you receive the VESC, please test without load and do not connect motor, first check if the VESC can successfully connect to your computer, if ok, then connect to motor and you can start to adjust parameters.
2. Do not use switching power supply, the instant voltage when switching power supply connect to VESC is very high, which would easy damage the VESC.
3. Do not push the throttle too hard when test without load, gently and slowly speed up.
4. Be cautious when adjust parameters, if parameters set mistake, would also easy damage the VESC.
5. Please must remember to change to corresponding modes when you adjust parameters, for example, the VESC default mode is BLDC mode, but if you want to detect FOC mode and adjusted FOC parameters, at this time if mode in VESC_TOOL didn't change to FOC mode, then when you push throttle, would easy burn the VESC, same as FOC mode.
6. For V6 in FOC mode, ERPM can't over 50000, otherwise driver IC would easy to be damaged.
ERPM= motor pole pairs number * KV * Voltage
7. If you use UART port, the wire better do not over 20cm or even shorter, and better use Stranded wire.

For V4 VESC:

The first 5 notice is same as V6, another notice is about FOC mode.
Do not suggest to use FOC mode, suggest to use BLDC mode.
If need to use FOC mode, then voltage should be under 20V.
